About the Coalition

Who We Are

Assisted by a team with decades of experience and success in IP law enforcement, ACACAP is a non-profit entity that seeks to help companies protect their brands from rights offenders.

While many organizations excel at raising awareness about counterfeiting issues, ACACAP delivers added value by:

  • Providing a platform for exchange of ideas and expertise,
  • Presenting action-oriented solutions strengthened by pooling resources,
  • Acting as a collective voice for brand owners, lobbying local authorities to implement and enforce policy change.

Given the breadth of counterfeiting sources and selling points in Southeast Asia, familiarity with individual country jurisdictions and IP laws is an asset in in the fight against trademark and brand infractions. ACACAP has the IP intellect and resources at its disposal to take action against cross-industry counterfeits throughout Asia.

ACACAP thus prides itself on its expertise in tackling counterfeiting and piracy problems on two fronts: effective on-the-ground enforcement, and lobbying governments to follow through with the necessary policy change to prevent the future trade of illicit goods.

The goal of the Asian Coalition Against Counterfeiting And Piracy (ACACAP) is to enable rights owners, whether they are local Asian brands or international brands, to combine forces to fight the growing problems of product counterfeiting or copyright piracy in Asia.

ACACAP was launched in May 2014 at a meeting in Hong Kong hosted by Ingo Dauer, General Counsel of L’Occitane-en-Provence. The meeting was attended by approximately 20 brands representing a cross-section of industry interests.

While there are a number of organizations that are active in raising awareness about the issues of counterfeiting and piracy at a global level, such as the International Anti-counterfeiting Coalition , ACACAP’s focus on Asia and its action-oriented approach are unique.
